Darcy Sharpe’s Next Chapter: Carving a Path That’s All His Own

June 30, 2025

After more than a decade of pushing boundaries and inspiring generations of snowboarders, Canadian National Team athlete Darcy Sharpe is announcing his retirement from competition.

From the moment Darcy burst onto the international scene, it was clear he had something special. He began competing in FIS-level events in 2010 and quickly made his mark by earning silver at the FIS Junior World Championships. By 2012, he had progressed to competing on the world stage, and it wasn’t long before the podiums followed.

In 2015, Darcy cemented his place among snowboarding’s elite, capturing gold in Big Air at both the Stoneham World Cup and the Kreischberg World Championships. That same year, he placed 3rd in Slopestyle at the Dew Tour, signaling a new chapter in his rapidly rising career.

Darcy’s journey continued with a 2nd place finish in Slopestyle at the Cardrona World Cup in 2017, and he became a fan favourite at the X Games, winning silver in 2018 and gold in 2020 in Slopestyle, and bronze in the 2024 Knuckle Huck. His performances consistently stood out—not just for technical mastery, but for the creativity and flair that defined his riding.

A two-time Dew Tour finalist (2018, 2019) and an Olympian at the 2022 Beijing Games, Darcy represented Canada with pride, finishing 12th in Big Air and 23rd in Slopestyle. He capped off his competitive career with a triumphant first-place finish at the Calgary World Cup in 2023.
Behind the podiums and accolades was a rider with unmatched style, individuality, and a desire to inspire.

“Darcy has a unique lens on life and his own way of going about things, which I think reflects his style and trick selection when you watch him snowboard,” said longtime coach Elliot Canton. “He often thought of the kids watching at home when putting his run together. He always had at least one trick in his run to fire up the fans. Looking back, I admire his commitment to wanting to stoke out the next generation.”

“All he talked about was winning X Games and being a snowboarder’s snowboarder, and he accomplished both. He challenged everyone around him to think differently and always brought a creative lens to the mountain. Darcy has had a huge impact on the sport, and he’ll continue to inspire riders as he moves into his next chapter in the backcountry.”

“When I started working with Darcy, I was transitioning from working with professional surfers to professional snowboarders. Darcy really helped me learn not only what his competitive experience is all about, but also the community and culture of snowboarding. I’m grateful to have worked with Darcy for the past nine seasons, from the setbacks to X Games gold. I look forward to continuing to support him in his next stages of his snowboarding career and in life.”  - Slopestyle Performance Coach, Jeremy Sheppard

Darcy has been part of the Canadian National Team since he was just 16 years old. Throughout his career, he brought a thoughtful and often challenging perspective to the program—never one to blindly follow, always asking questions and standing by his values. That mindset helped shape not only his own path, but the evolution of the team as well.

He approached every chapter of his career with the goal of staying true to himself, and in doing so, helped those around him see things differently and grow. His presence left a lasting mark—not just through results, but through the conversations, challenges, and change he inspired.

As Darcy transitions into a new phase of his snowboarding journey, focused on backcountry riding and creative expression, we celebrate everything he’s achieved and contributed to the sport.

From early podiums to the pinnacle of global events, Darcy Sharpe’s legacy is one of style, substance, and impact.

We can’t wait to see what he does next.
